The Lady In The Van
Supplied by TicketSource
The year is 1974 and a homeless Miss Mary Shepherd moves her broken down van into Alan Bennett's garden in north London on his invitation. What was intended to be a temporary arrangement ends up lasting 15 years and Bennett, a somewhat reluctant landlord, begins to piece together the fascinating aspects of her life.
A deeply religious woman, eccentric and stubborn in equal measure, she has, it seems, quite a tale to tell. Alan Bennett’s uniquely observant story-telling style gives an account of those years and was later adapted for a 2015 film of the same name.
