About the show
Open to intermediate to advanced players This workshop offers tin whistle players the chance to deepen their technique, style and musical understanding with one of Irish music’s most influential flute and whistle players, Brian Finnegan. Aimed at intermediate to advanced players, the workshop will focus on developing tone, control and expression, with practical work on ornamentation, articulation, phrasing and rhythm. Brian will explore how to shape tunes with lift and variation, how to build flow and drive in reels and jigs, and how to bring musicality and nuance to slower airs and melodies. The workshop will also look at learning and retaining repertoire, refining breathing and finger technique, and building confidence for playing in sessions, bands and performance settings. Players can expect a supportive, focused environment with plenty of musical insight and hands-on guidance. Brian Finnegan is internationally recognised as the founding flute/tin-whistle player and frontman of Flook, and is widely respected as a composer, collaborator and producer whose work continues to shape contemporary Irish traditional music. His playing is celebrated for its power, clarity and imagination, combining deep traditional roots with an adventurous, forward-looking approach. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a master musician, and to come away with new tools, fresh inspiration and a deeper connection to the instrument and the tradition.
